Descrição: Exatos 6 anos depois de introduzir o NES nos EUA, a Nintendo lançou o poderoso Super Nintendo para brigar com o cada vez mais ameaçador Sega Genesis (no ocidente, o grande competidor a ser batido). O console, por ser quase 2 anos mais novo, possuía gráficos e efeitos sonoros bem mais sofisticados que o concorrente. O SNES conseguia colocar até 256 cores simultaneamente na tela, de uma paleta de mais de 32.000 cores; e movimentava sprites (com efeitos de rotação, zoom e transparência) bem mais complexos do que o Genesis. O controle também inovou com os seus 8 botões, apesar de seu design lembrar um "osso" para cães.
O SNES caiu no gosto do consumidor e foi um estrondoso sucesso desde o seu lançamento em Novembro de 1990 no Japão e Setembro de 1991 nos EUA. Também pudera: o console trouxe a melhor seleção de jogos da história em sua fase inicial. Foi uma época de ouro para os jogadores.
